Lidocaine/Numbing shot

Went to the doctors yesterday for a numbing shot for the nerves/muscles around my right ovary. It was one of the worst decisions I have ever made. My pain has intensified and gone up the right side of my body. In addition to the normal ovarian pain, I feel like I've been bruised all the way up towards my ribs. When I was on the table receiving the injection, I had a severe muscle spasm around the area, so the doc put me on muscle relaxants also. I'm so sick of meds, I'm so tired of not having answers. I just want my pain to go away. For good. I'm fed up.

Hi Christa,

I've had the lidocaine and the other "nerve relaxant" trigger point shots before. It's not uncommon to have the radiating pain afterwards, and for a few days, but it should get easier, as well as help to improve the overall pain in that area. Did they "rub" the injection site downwards afterwards? This can help to spread the medication out. As well, use moist heat on the injection sites as this will also help with the pain and get things rolling for you.

Repeated injections do get easier, it's just getting over that initial flaring pain from the nerve that's not used to being attacked.

Hugs,
Melissa Ralston

I've never heard of that before. :( I'm sorry it's not going well, but, take comfort in Melissa's experience. I hope it gets better really soon!
